Women's Tennis Places Four On All-GLIAC Teams

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University women's tennis team placed four players on the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) team, the league announced Friday night (October 27).

Senior Olesia Riabchuk and juniors Tetyana Pavych & Carol Arnez-Mercado were named to the First Team All-GLIAC. Sophomore Kate Berestovenko was named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC.

Riabchuk led the way for Northwood in singles, going 8-2 overall (7-2 from the No. 1 position). She also went 7-3 combined in doubles at the No. 2 and No. 3 position.

Pavych had an outstanding fall season for the Timberwolves, going a combined 18-2 overall. She posted a 9-1 record in singles (8-1 at No. 2, 1-0 at No. 1) and a 9-1 mark in doubles from the No. 1 slot.

Arnez-Mercado overcame injury issues to become a force for Northwood. She went 6-0 in singles from the No. 3 positiion and teamed with Pavych to go 9-1 at No. 1 doubles.

Berestovenko went undefeated for the Timberwolves in singles, going 4-0 at the No. 4 slot and 6-0 at the fifth position. She also went 7-2 in doubles at the No. 2 slot.

Northwood finished the regular season 9-1 in the GLIAC, placing second to Grand Valley State. NU will open play at the GLIAC Tournament Friday night (October 27) against Ferris State. First serve is set for 6:45 p.m.
