Tennis Teams Earn Academic Honors From The ITA

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's and women's tennis team earned academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

Both programs were named an ITA All-Academic Team. In addition, six men and six women were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet the following requirements:

  • have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year
  • be listed on the institutional eligibility form

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements:

  • have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale)
  • all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form
  • all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year

On the men's side, Ben Brandherm, Leon Grundstrom, Tony Henrio, Clayton Scott, David Sedlar and Mathis Violet each were named ITA Scholar-Athletes. As a team, they finished the 2020-21 academic year with a 3.694 GPA. That GPA is the second-highest among all teams at Northwood, trailing only the women's tennis team.

Amanda Bandrowski, Anna Goncharova, Vasilisa Mikhaylova, Iryna Trystan, Elizaveta Velichko, and Ekaterina Vorobeva were the ITA Scholar-Athlete honorees on the women's side. The team had a Northwood-best 3.881 GPA this year.
