Track Teams Host NU Open

The Northwood University track and field teams hosted the Northwood Open Saturday afternoon (April 13).

No team scoring was taken at the event, which was held at the Fisher Track at Hantz Stadium.  The athletes faced difficult, variable weather conditions throughout the event.

Despite the tough conditions, Northwood took home 10 first-place finishes.  On the women's side, Madison Pines brought home a first place finish in the 1,500 meter run, clocking a 4:39.62.  Valencia Lynch was the winner in the 100 with time of 12.96, while Marsadie Cinato ran a 59.76 to win the 400.  Danielle Miller was the winner of the 5,000 thanks to running a 18:16.99.  NU also earned a pair of wins in the throws thanks to Hunter Perry in the Discus (123-3) and Caili Powelson in the javelin (79-2).

The NU men took home four events.  Silas DeKalita clocked a 15:08.06 to win the 5,000.  The relay team of Wally Clay, Marcus Rogers, Doug Ladner and Brian Grecu earned a thrilling win in the 4X400 with a time of 3:28.57.  They won the race by .06 over Lake Superior State.  Daniel Capek was the winner of the Hammer (176-04), while Jacob Squier earned the win in the javelin (140-03).

Northwood will compete at the Al Owens Invitational Saturday (April 20).
