Indoor Track & Field Teams Travel To Aquinas College Quad Meet

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – The Northwood University indoor track and field teams traveled to Grand Rapids, Mich. for the Aquinas College Quad Meet on Friday afternoon (January 15).

The four teams involved in the quad meet were Aquinas College, St. Francis (Ill.), Bethel (Ind.) and Northwood.

The Women finished second in the meet with a total of 117.5 points, only behind the host Aquinas (170). Claudia Coleman (Keller,Tx / Fossil Ridge (NU-Texas)) led the way for the Timberwolves with a pair of first place finishes. Her time of 7.87 won the 60 meter dash, after a 7.85 time in the preliminary round. Coleman also finished first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.19. Other first place finishers were Elaina Meadows (Schoolcraft, Mich. / Schoolcraft) in the long jump with a mark of 5.45 meters and Dana Turner (Maywood, Ill. / Walther Lutheran) with a .9 meter triple jump mark. Heaven Powell (Port Huron, Mich. / Port Huron) finished second in the high jump with a mark of 1.55 meters, while Jennifer McKenna (Orchard Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) also finished second in the 800 meter run clocking 2:25.2.

On the men's side, the Timberwolves finished with 120 points for third place. Aquinas won the meet with a total of 153.5 points. Jordan Fields (Lauderhill, Fla. / Blanche Ely) took home a first place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.47, while Kyle Vandersyde (Hopkins, Mich. / Hopkins) finished second at 8.6. Other first place finishers were Paul Evans (Lenox, Mich. / New Haven) with a weight throw of 17.18 meters (17.19 meters is an NCAA Provisional qualifying mark), Jeremy Wilchcombe (Freeport, Bahamas / St. Georges) in the long jump [6.83 meters] and triple jump [14.42 meters], and Tray Thompson (Fort Worth, Tx. / Duncanville) running 1:23.67 in the 600 meter run. Sammy Tanui (Eldoret, Kenya / Universal) and John King (Mesick, Mich. / Mesick) each finished second in the 3,000 [9:14.46] and 400 [51.86], respectively.

The Timberwolves will be back on the road next weekend, traveling to Bloomington, Ind. For the Gladstein Invite on Friday (January 22).
