Indoor Track & Field Teams Compete In The GVSU Big Meet

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Northwood University indoor track and field teams traveled to Grand Valley State University over the weekend for the GVSU Big Meet on Friday and Saturday (February 12 & 13).

There was no team scoring in the meet, featuring Grand Valley State, Hillsdale, Northern Michigan, Davenport, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Saginaw Valley State, Cedarville, among others.

Despite having jumped 5.84 meters earlier this season for an NCAA provisional qualifying mark,Elaina Meadows (Schoolcraft, Mich. / Schoolcraft) won the long jump invite on Friday with a jump of 5.8 meters and took second with another provo mark of 5.69 meters in the 'open' event on Saturday. The team of Darci Asel-Templin (Essexville, Mich. / Garber), Kara Young(Zephyrhills, Fla. / Zephyrhills), Claudia Coleman (Keller,Tx / Fossil Ridge (NU-Texas)) andMadison Arnouts (Grand Ledge, Mich. / Grand Ledge) ran 4:00.64 in the 4x400 relay for seventh place as well as the second best time in school history.

After throwing an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 17.67 meters last week, senior Paul Evans (Lenox, Mich. / New Haven) threw another provo mark of 17.51 meters in the weight throw for fourth place. Tray Thompson (Fort Worth, Tx. / Duncanville) ran 1:54.15 in the 800 meter run for fifth place, while Kyle Vandersyde (Hopkins, Mich. / Hopkins) also took fifth in the 60 meter hurdles with the third best time in school history of 8.49. Jeremy Wilchcombe (Freeport, Bahamas / St. Georges) took sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.12. Freshman Cody Patterson (Wolverine Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) finished eighth in the shot put with a toss of 14.71 meters, which ties Craig Borsenik for the third best throw in school history. The men's 4x400 meter relay team finished sixth with a time of 3:23.86.

The Timberwolves will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Hillsdale, Mich. for the annual Hillsdale Tune Up meet on February 20 before the GLIAC Championships.
