Elaina Meadows Wins Long Jump At Indoor Track & Field GLIAC Championships

TIFFIN, OHIO - The Northwood University track and field teams competed at the 2016 GLIAC Indoor Championships Saturday and Sunday (February 27 and 28).

This year's event was hosted by Tiffin University.

The men's team placed 9th overall with 13 points. Grand Valley State was the overall winner with 165.5 points, Tiffin followed with 134.5. Jordan Fields (Lauderhill, Fla. / Blanche Ely) ran the second best time in school history and finished fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.38, while Kyle Vandersyde (Hopkins, Mich.) followed close behind in sixth place with the third best time at NU at 8.44. The team of John King (Mesick, Mich. / Mesick), Shane Barron, Fields, and Tray Thompson (Fort Worth, Tx. / Duncanville (NU-Texas)) finished fifth in the 4x400 meter relay clocking 3:23.54. Thompson also finished ninth at 1:57.36 in the 800 meter run. Jeremy Wilchcombe (Freeport, Bahamas / St. Georges(NU-TX)) jumped 6.87 meters to finish eighth in the long jump.

On the women's side the Timberwolves placed 11th overall with 15 points. Grand Valley State was the overall winner with 172 points, followed by Hillsdale with 101.5. Elaina Meadows (Schoolcraft, Mich.) led the Timberwolves to win the long jump with a mark of 5.78 meters. In the 60 meter dash, Claudia Coleman (Keller,Tx / Fossil Ridge (NU-Texas)) and Kara Young (Zephyrhills, Fla. / Zephyrhills) finished sixth and seventh in the 60 meter dash, respectively. Coleman ran a third best time in school history at 7.75 in the preliminaries and 7.79 in the finals, while Young ran the second best time at NU of and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 7.69 in the prelims and 7.80 in the finals. Jenny Frantz (Ovid, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie), Drew Findlay (Reese, Mich. / Reese), Jennifer McKenna (Orchard Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) and Chloe Thiel (Plainwell, Mich. / Plainwell) ran 12:59.16 to finish tenth in the distance medley relay.
