Track & Field Hunts for the Podium at GLIAC Indoor Championships

MIDLAND, MI – The Northwood University men's and women's track and field teams will take to the track in the 2022 GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend (February 26-27). The event is hosted by GVSU and runs Saturday and Sunday, with events divided into two days. 

The Timberwolves look to compete in the team podium finishes after finishing third in 2021. NU has had podium finishes in each of the last three years.

Multiple athletes are looking to retain their titles as GLIAC Indoor Champions themselves. 

For the men, 2021 GLIAC Indoor Long jump Champion, Xzavia Price is focused on multiple crowns this year as he also placed third in the 60m last year.

Throws and mid-distance are strong suits for the Wolves. School record holder and freshman Dillan Haviland (mile, 800m, and DMR) will aid NU in its scoring efforts. 

Teammates Stephen Barker (DMR and 800m), freshman Josh Jones (DMR and 800m), and Trestin Mancillas-Finnerty(DMR and mile) will round out the distance medley relay team for NU. This foursome set the DMR school record at the Big Meet on February 11 at 9:45.13

GLIAC Commissioner's Award recipient Zane Aldrich (5k and 3k) wants to score and score big for NU. Aldrich was an NCAA Qualifier for the 10k in Cross Country this past fall.

Zechariah Stickler was an All-Amerian in the shot put last year and will look to repeat that this postseason.

For the women, 2021 GLIAC Indoor Shot Put Champion Jessica Kursinsky sets the tone in the shot put. 

Taky Ezell will make her presence felt in the weight throw, where she just set her new personal best of 18.93m en route to being named a GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week. 

Debra Wallace will be competing in the 200m. Wallace has placed inside the top four the last two Indoor Championships. 

The Timberwolf Women's track team are going to have the foursome of Lainey Veenkant (mile and DMR), Molly Kitson (800m and DMR), Avery Stadt (800m and DMR), and Sarah Zehr (mile and DMR) competing for NU in the distance medley relay.

 

MEET INFO

 

The Indoor Championships are going to at the Kelly Family Sports Center in Allendale, Michigan on the campus of Grand Valley State. The meet will begin Saturday at 10 AM with the women's heptathlon and men's pentathlon, followed by the running and field events at 3 PM.
