Track & Field Shows Grit At The Michigan Invitational

OVERVIEW 

MEET: MICHIGAN INVITATIONAL

LOCATION: ANN ARBOR, MICH. – UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN

RECAP: Northwood track & field gave it its best shot Saturday (January 14) at the Michigan Invitational. The Timberwolves competed against seven Division I schools and numerous unattached athletic competitors and clubs.

INSIDE THE MEET – MEN

  • Xzavia Price finished fourth (6.92) in the 60m. Price earned his place, racing against five Division I athletes in the finals.
  • Nathan Powers led the NU throwers hitting 19.28m in the weight throw and taking third and clearing the NCAA provisional mark. Powers now holds the sixth-best throw in NCAA Division II and is second in the GMAC this season.
  • Sebastian Tesch set a new weight throw personal record (PR) hitting 18.00m. He also clears the NCAA provisional mark and has the 24th-best throw in DII this season.
  • Dillan Haviland's 15th place, 4:07.33 mile cleared the NCAA provisional mark and was just over a second behind the school record he set last season. His mark is currently fourth-best in DII this season.
  • Haviland's teammate Josh Jones set a new PR in the mile (4:10.09 – 19th) event and moved into third all-time in NU history books. He also cleared the NCAA provisional mark and now holds the 10th-best time in DII this season.
  • Preston Earl (4:15.73 – 28th) and Zane Aldrich (4:22.90 – 35th) also competed in the mile.
  • Will Nemecek hit 16.13m in the shot, leading the Timberwolves as he earned a fourth-place finish. Nemecek nows has the second best shot throw in the GMAC this season.
  • Travis Schepers hit 14.53m as he also competed in the shot and placed sixth.
  • JeRonn Body ran his first collegiate 400m race finishing in 51.59.
  • Body, Jones, Earl, and Price competed in the 4x400m for NU, finishing in 3:25.44.
  • Jon Kelm competed in the long jump. Kelm's best just of the day was 6.65m.

INSIDE THE MEET – WOMEN

  • Lillian Albaugh was the lone female competitor for the Timberwolves. Albaugh held her own hitting 13.24m in the shot put.

  • Northwood track & field will compete at next weekend's Mike Lints Alumni Open at GSVU on Saturday (January 21).
