Track & Field Has Five Athletes Earn Top-25 NCAA Marks At GVSU

OVERVIEW 

MEET: MIKE LINTS INVITATIONAL

LOCATION: ALLENDALE, MICH. – GRAND VALLEY STATE

RECAP: Northwood track & field continues to improve upon their personal marks as five athletes earned NCAA DII top-25 marks in each of their respective events this season.

INSIDE THE MEET – MEN 

  • Nathan Powers (19.45m – first) and Sebastian Tesch (18.84m – third) earned spots on the podium. Both throws cleared the NCAA provisional mark. They now hold the eighth and 12th-best DII tosses this season. Tesch's mark is another personal record (PR) as he moves into fourth in NU history.
  • Northwood went one-two during the 800m race. Josh Jones (1:51.75 – first) and Dillan Haviland (1:51.86 – second) each cleared the NCAA provisional mark. 
  • Jones and Haviland now hold the fifth and seventh-best times in DII this season. Haviland's 800m mark was a new PR as he moved into sixth place in Northwood history.
  • Will Nemecek's 16.69m throw was past the NCAA provisional mark and earned Northwood a third-place finish in the shot-put invite. This toss ranks 21st in DII this season.
  • Preston Earl (1:55.20 – seventh) also finished top 10 in the 800m race. 
  • Xzavia Price won the 60m dash with a 6.92 finish. He also took ninth, finishing in 22.74 of the 200m dash. 
  • Jordon Clerkey finished just behind Price in the 200m, taking 12th in 23.36.
  • Brandon Boyd (4:17.04 – ninth) and Elliot Lipe (4:18.31 – 10th) both finished top-10 during the men's mile. 
  • The 60m hurdle finals featured two NU freshmen. Blake Vier (8.58 – fifth) and Matheu Morrison (8.65 – sixth). Both freshmen set new PRs as Vier moves up to seventh in NU history and Morrison moves into the 60m hurdle top-10 to ninth 
  • A team of Lipe, Earl, Haviland, and Jones placed second in the 4x400m in 3:26.24.
  • True freshman Nicholas Ball earned an eighth-place finish in the shot put invite with a 13.72m toss.

INSIDE THE MEET – WOMEN

  • Lillian Albaugh held her own in both the weight throw and shot-put invite hitting 12.60m during the weight throw earning a sixth-place finish, while her shot earned her a podium finish with a 13.63m throw. Her season-best shot put is 23rd best in DII this season.
  • Emily Coulter also competed for Northwood in the weight throw. Coulter hit 12.13m, taking eighth place.
  • Gabby Jones took sixth, finishing in 9.97 in the 60m hurdle finals.
  • Katherine Haupt (2:20.71 – eighth) and Taylor Hopkins (2:21.65 – 10th) each placed top-10 for Northwood during the 800m race. Haupt now sits in sixth while Hopkins moves into eighth in the NU history books.
  • Hailey Granata (1:05.70 -12th) and Jenna Gaul (1:05.80 – 13th) competed in 400m. 
  • Jones (28.40 – 21st) and Granata (28.21 – 23rd) also raced in the 200m.
  • Alexis Kaanta was a Northwood representative in both the long jump (4.35m – seventh) and triple jump (9.97m – third). 
  • Sarah Zehr (5:23.78 – 18th), Kameron Haag (5:25.29 – 19th), Rachael Sierakowski (5:27.23 – 20th), Lainey Veenkant (5:28.61 – 22nd), and Molly Dickinson (5:48.26) were Northwood's top -5 best finishers in the mile.
