Haviland's Performance Highlights Track & Field's Stellar Days At SVSU

OVERVIEW 

MEET: JET'S PIZZA INVITATIONAL

LOCATION: UNIVERSITY CENTER, MICH. – SAGINAW VALLEY STATE

RECAP: Northwood track & field had four athletes win their respective events. Dillan Haviland shattered a Northwood and fieldhouse record in the process.

INSIDE THE MEET – MEN 

  • Dillan Haviland (8:02.40 – first) set a personal, Northwood, and Ryder Center fieldhouse record during the men's 3000m race. He beat the Ryder Center record by nine seconds and has the sixth-best time in DII this season. Haviland holds the best 3000m in the G-MAC this season.
  • Nathan Powers (19.34m – first) took the top spot on the weight throw podium for the second weekend in a row (Mike Lints Invitational). Powers also cleared the NCAA provisional mark again in the process.
  • Jon Kelm let it fly in the long jump. The sophomore took gold with a 7.22m NCAA provisional mark, setting a new personal record (PR) by 29cm. Kelm now holds the 22nd-best jump in DII this season and is fourth in NU's long jump history. 
  • Kelm would also place second in the triple jump, leaping 12.70m.
  • Xzavia Price won the men's 60m dash with a 6.89 finish. He qualified first overall with a 6.92, 60m dash during prelims. Price also competed on day one, placing third in the long jump at 6.93m.
  • Jordan Taiwo competed in his first heptathlon of the season. After day one, he sat in third with 2556 points. His best finish came during the long jump. He cleared 6.30m during the long jump, placing second and earning 652 points.
  • Taiwo would later finish second overall on day two with 4509 points. Taiwo's score is second-best in Northwood history.
  • Zane Aldrich (8:25.06 - sixth) and Bandon Boyd (8:25.55 – seventh) each finished top 10 during the men's 3000m. 
  • Travis Schepers (16.10m – second) and Will Nemecek (16.07m – third) each finish on the podium during the men's shot put,
  • David Kotliarker threw in the weight throw. David's best mark was 16.67m as he took third.
  • Blake Vier represented Northwood in the 60m hurdles. Vier placed top 10, taking seventh in 8.79.

INSIDE THE MEET – WOMEN

  • Lillian Albaugh placed fourth in the shot put with a 12.71m mark. 
  • Emily Coulter competed for the Timberwolves in the weight throw, hitting 11.81m and taking 17th.
  • Gabby Jones (1:01.75 – 13th), Hailey Granata (1:05.55 -19th) and Jenna Gaul (1:07.81 – 21st) competed in 400m. Jones and Granata's marks were PRs for both athletes.
  • Gabby Jones (.40 – 21st) and Granata (28.21 – 23rd) also raced in the 200m.
  • Alexis Kaanta took 13th in the women's long jump with a 4.13m mark. Kaanta also placed seventh in the triple jump with a 9.77m mark.
  • Rachael Sierakowski (10:42.99 – 17th), Kameron Haag (10:43.24 – 18th), and Sarah Zehr (10:48.30 – 21st) all finished top 25 during the women's 3000m race. 
  • Ture freshman Vivian Williams placed top 25 in the women's 200m. Williams finished in 27.77 and took 23rd.

 

UP NEXT

  • Northwood track & field will utilize split squads next weekend as half of the team will travel to GVSU for the Snowdown Showdown (February 3) while the other heads to the Jud Logan Lightgiver Open at Ashland (February 3-4).
