Volleyball Earns 3-1 Win Over Grand Valley State

The Northwood Timberwolves volleyball team earned a 3-1 win over Grand Valley State Saturday afternoon (September 15). Set scores were 25-20, 25-15, 16-25, 25-20.

Northwood is now 8-3 overall, 2-0 in the GLIAC. GVSU falls to 7-3 overall, 0-2 in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Northwood came out efficiently on the offensive end, registering 25 kills and just eight errors. GVSU had 17 kills and 11 errors during the same stretch.

GVSU was a different team in the third, winning 25-16 to cut the lead to 2-1. But Northwood responded with a strong fourth set, holding the Lakers to a .111 hitting percentage.

For the match, Northwood hit .200 (47-20-135). Grand Valley State finished at .140 (40-22-129). The Timberwolves also finished with a 9-3 edge in aces.

Juliia Pakhomenko led the way with 13 kills and 14 digs. Zina Liubymova added 10 kills and 13 digs.

Northwood will host Tiffin Friday night (September 21). Match time is set for 7 p.m.
