Juliia Pakhomenko, Tim Koth Earn AVCA Honors
The Northwood University volleyball team earned a pair of regional honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association Wednesday afternoon (November 21).
Head Coach Tim Koth was named the Midwest Region Coach of the Year, while sophomore outside hitter Juliia Pakhomenko (Donetsk, Ukraine) claimed First Team All-Region honors.
The 2012 GLIAC Coach of the Year, Koth led Northwood to both the GLIAC Championship and GLIAC Tournament title. Picked to finish seventh in the GLIAC Preseason Coach's poll, he led the Timberwolves to a 26-6 overall record and a 17-1 mark in GLIAC play. Northwood has earned the No. 2 seed for the upcoming NCAA Midwest Regional Championships. It marks the first time in his career that Koth has earned the Midwest Coach of the Year award.
Pakhomenko continues to rack up recognition after a dominant first season at outside hitter for the Timberwolves. She was named the GLIAC Player of the Year after ranking second in the GLIAC in kills (4.17) and points (4.93) per set. Pakhomenko currently ranks 13th nationally in kills and eight in points per set. A five time GLIAC North Division Player of the Week, Pakhomenko also leads the GLIAC and ranks 32nd nationally in aces per set (0.5). She is now eligible to earn AVCA All-American team honors.
Northwood travels to the NCAA Tournament November 30, taking on Ashland in Indianapolis.
