Volleyball Falls 3-1 At Findlay

The Northwood University volleyball team saw its five match winning streak come to an end Friday night (October 11) with a 3-1 loss at Findlay. Set scores were 25-18, 22-25, 25-19, 26-24.

Northwood falls to 10-6 overall, 5-3 in the GLIAC.  Findlay improves to 12-5 overall, 5-3 in the GLIAC.

Findlay came out strong in the opening set, hitting .344 (14-3-32) while holding Northwood to a .161 clip (11-6-31). The Oilers broke open a close set by scoring nine of 12 points to take an 11-10 lead and turn it into a 20-13 advantage.

It appeared Findlay was going to go up 2-0 late in the second set, leading 21-14. But following a Northwood timeout, the Timberwolves went on a huge run to earn the comeback victory in the set.  NU registered 10 straight points to take a 24-21 lead.  The two teams then exchanged points to give the Timberwolves the second set. Northwood hit .231 in the set (12-5-29) while Findlay finished at .258 (12-4-31).

Findlay responded to the tough second set loss with a strong finish to the third set. The score was tied at 15 when the Oilers earned 10 of the final 14 points to earn a 2-1 lead.  The Oilers serving was particularly important down the stretch, as four of their final 10 points came on aces.  Findlay hit .429 (11-2-21) while holding Northwood to a .182 clip (10-6-22).

Northwood took a 21-18 lead in the fourth set, but Findlay fought back to with three straight points to level the score at 21.  The Timberwolves eventually earned a set point at 24-23, only to see the Oilers respond with another three point run to earn the set and the overall victory 26-24.

For the match, the Timberwolves hit .187 (48-25-123) while Findlay finished at .275 (49-16-120). The Oilers also finished with a 12-8 edge in aces as well as 10-4 advantage in blocks.

Krysta Kramer (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) led the way for Northwood, finishing with 12 kills and 12 digs while hitting .320 (12-4-25). Juliia Pakhomenko (Donetsk, Ukraine) had 12 kills, while Jordan Dunn (Bowling Green, Ohio) registered 42 assists and four kills.

Northwood will travel to Wayne State Saturday (October 12).  Match time is set for 2 p.m.
