Juliia Pakhomenko Named First Team All-American By The AVCA

2013 AVCA Division II All-America Teams

Juliia Pakhomenko (Donetsk, Ukraine), a senior outside hitter for the Northwood University volleyball team, has been named a First Team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

It marks the second consecutive year that Pakhomenko has earned the honor. She is the lone representative of the Midwest Region on the First Team.

Pakhomenko turned in another dominant season for Northwood, finishing the year ranked third nationally in kills (4.95 per set) and in points (5.6).  She averaged over a kill more per set than any other player in the GLIAC and had 148 more kills than any other player in the GLIAC (599). Despite playing just two seasons at Northwood, Pakhomenko registered 1,075 kills, good for 13th in school history.  Since the NCAA changed the winning score in a set from 30 to 25 in 2008, Pakhomenko has over 200 more kills than any other Northwood player. She earned GLIAC Player of the Week honors eight times in two seasons and was the only player in Division II to reach the 30 kill mark in two separate matches during the regular season.

Thanks in large part to Pakhomenko' s efforts, Northwood had a pair of tremendous seasons over the last two years.  The team posted 47 victories, a GLIAC Championship, a GLIAC Tournament title and two top-three finishes in the Midwest region in the regular season.
