Volleyball Claims 3-0 Win Over Glenville State

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Northwood University volleyball team claimed their first victory of the 2014 season Friday afternoon (September 5), downing Glenville State 3-0. Set scores were 25-11, 25-16, 25-16.

The victory was the first for James Goodridge as the head coach of the Timberwolves.  It was also a part of the Lock Haven University Invitational.

A day after struggling with their offense, Northwood had a much-improved effort against Glenville. The Timberwolves hit above .300 in the first (.333) and the third sets (.308) and finished at .264 overall (33-14-72). The Timberwolves also finished with a 12-2 advantage in aces and 7-4 edge in blocks. The Northwood defense held Glenville State to a -.076 attack percentage (15-20-66).

Northwood sported a balanced attack – five players finished the match with at least four kills. Marissa Pomaville (Livonia, Mich./Churchill) led all players with eight kills and five blocks while hitting .467 (8-1-15). Freshman Allison Getty (Wayland, Mich.) had six kills, while Krysta Kramer (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) added five kills. Cassandra Marsh (Maumee, Ohio) and Chelsea Watson (Bowling Green, Ohio/Niagara U.) each had four kills. Erin Hoomaian (Novi, Mich.) finished with match-highs with four aces and six digs.

The Timberwolves will play a pair of matches Saturday (September 6). NU will take on California (PA) at 11 a.m. followed by Bloomfield at 3 p.m.
