Volleyball Falls 3-0 At Saginaw Valley

SAGINAW, MICH. – The Northwood University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match at Saginaw Valley Saturday afternoon (October 25). Set scores were 25-23, 25-16, 25-16.

Northwood falls to 6-14 overall, 3-10 in the GLIAC. The Cardinals improve to 13-8 overall, 9-4 in the GLIAC.

Due to injuries, just nine Timberwolves dressed for today's match. The opening set proved to be the key to the match, as it appeared the Timberwolves were on their way to a 1-0 lead thanks to going up 23-20. But Saginaw Valley responded after a timeout, scoring the next five points to win the set. The Timberwolves held the advantage in kills (10-9) and had one fewer attack error (8-7) in the set, but serving cost NU the lead. Ashland had four aces and just two errors while Northwood finished with two aces and five errors.

NU started strong in the second set, taking an early 5-1 lead. After maintaining a 12-11 advantage, the Cardinals pulled away outscoring the Timberwolves 14-4 the rest of the set. SVSU's offense came alive in the set, hitting .237 (16-7-38). Northwood finished the second at .000 (7-7-38).

The Cardinals continued to attack in the third, hitting .268 (17-6-41). NU finished at .143 (9-4-35). The Timberwolves continued to battle throughout the set, despite holding a 3-1 lead and trailing for the remainder of the set.

For the match, Northwood hit .080 (26-18-100) while the Cardinals finished at .202 (42-21-104). Northwood's middle blockers Marissa Pomaville (Livonia, Mich. / Churchill) and Sydney Greulich (Kitchener, Ontario / St. Mary's) had a big day for the Timberwolves. Greulich finished with five kills, four block assists and a solo block in the match.

Allison Getty (Wayland, Mich. / Wayland), Chelsea Watson (Bowling Green, Ohio/Niagara U.) and Greulich each finished with five kills. Meghan Cleary (Howell, Mich. / Farmington Hills Mercy) and Cassandra Marsh (Maumee, Ohio / Maumee) each added four kills for the Timberwolves.
