Volleyball Finishes Season With 3-0 Win At Lake Superior State

The Northwood University volleyball team finished their 2014 season with a 3-0 win at Lake Superior State Sunday afternoon (November 9). Set scores were 25-17, 25-17, 25-22.

Northwood finishes the year 7-18 overall, 4-14 in the GLIAC. Lake Superior State ends the year at 2-24 overall, 1-17 in the GLIAC.

In the opening set, Northwood used a 10-2 run to open up a 17-10 lead. The Lakers got no closer than four points the rest of the way. Northwood hit .152 in the set (12-7-33) while LSSU finished at .091 (8-5-33).

The second set proved to be similar to the first, even down to the final score. With the score tied 8-8, Northwood went on a 9-2 run to open up a 17-10 lead. Like the previous set, LSSU got no closer than four points the rest of the way. NU finished the second set hitting .281 (14-5-32), while the Lakers ended up at .069 (8-6-29).

Northwood needed a late run to complete the sweep in the third set. Lake State led 19-17 when NU took a timeout. The Timberwolves responded by scoring six of the next seven points to go up 23-20 before finishing thing out at 25-22. Northwood's offense was very strong in the third set, with 21 of their 25 points coming by kills.  NU hit .395 (21-4-43) while LSSU registered a .242 mark (11-3-33).

For the match, the Timberwolves ended up with a .287 attack percentage (47-16-108) while the Lakers finished at .137 (27-14-95). NU also finished with a 43-35 edge in digs.

The balanced Northwood attack featured four players who shared team-high honors with eight kills. Allison Getty (Wayland, Mich.), Krysta Kramer (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge), Marissa Pomaville (Livonia, Mich./Churchill) and Cassandra Marsh (Maumee, Ohio) all had eight kills to lead the way for Northwood.

The Timberwolves will lose just one senior (Erin Hoomaian) for the 2015 season.
