Volleyball Drops Pair At Southern Indiana

EVANSVILLE, IND. – The Northwood University volleyball team opened their 2015 season with a pair of losses. The Timberwolves started the day with a 3-0 loss (25-13, 25-14, 25-20) to No. 6 Wayne State (Neb.) before falling 3-0 to Southern Indiana (25-19,25-19,25-15).

The matches were a part of the Dunn Hospitality Invitational, hosted by Southern Indiana.

In the Wayne State match, the Wildcats took control early and never looked back. WSC played a clean match against the Timberwolves, finishing with eight attack errors to 22 for NU. Three different Timberwolves had three players finish with at least five kills in the match, led by Allison Getty (Wayland, Mich.) with six. Krysta Kramer (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) and Chelsea Watson (Bowling Green, Ohio/Niagara U.) each had five. Cassandra Marsh (Maumee, Ohio) had four kills on seven attempts for a .429 attack percentage.

Southern Indiana also played a clean match against the Timberwolves, hitting .324 overall while committing just eight errors (44-8-111). NU's attack improved in their second match of the day, finishing with more kills (33-27) and fewer errors (18-22) compared to earlier in the day, but it was not enough.  Kramer played a strong match for the Timberwolves, finishing with 13 kills and four errors in 37 attempts.

Northwood will continue action in the tournament with a pair of matches Saturday (September 5). NU will take on Southwest Baptist at 1 p.m. before facing Kentucky Wesleyan at 4:30 p.m.
