Volleyball Sweeps Lake Superior State 3-0

SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH. – The Northwood University volleyball team picked up a 3-0 road win over Lake Superior State Sunday afternoon (September 20). Set scores were 25-18, 25-14, 26-24.

Northwood is now 4-7 overall, 2-1 in the GLIAC. Lake Superior State falls to 0-7 overall, 0-3 in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves' offense came out strong in the opening two sets, hitting .510 (28-3-49). NU had 14 kills and three errors on 23 attempts in the opening set (.478) and 14 kills and zero errors on 26 attempts (.538). During that time, LSSU hit .107 (19-13-56).

In the third set, Northwood needed to rally back from a late deficit to earn the sweep. The Lakers had set point at 24-21, but the Timberwolves scored the final five points. Neither team hit particularly well in the set - Northwood had 11 errors while hitting .032 (12-11-31) while LSSU finished at -.029 mark (9-10-34).

For the match, Northwood hit .325 (40-14-80) while Lake Superior State ended up at .056 (28-23-90). The Timberwolves finished with a 29-21 advantage in digs and a 10-4 edge in blocks.

Northwood had a balanced attack in the match, as five different Timberwolves finished with at least five kills. Chelsea Watson (Bowling Green, Ohio/Niagara U.) led the way with eight kills on 13 attempts, hitting .625. Allison Getty (Wayland, Mich.) and Krysta Kramer (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge each had seven kills, while Colleen Mayer (Troy, Mich./Avondale) and Meghan Cleary (Howell, Mich./Farmington Hills Mercy) both had five kills.

The Timberwolves will host their home opener Friday night (September 25) versus Hillsdale. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
