Volleyball Falls In Five To Hillsdale

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University volleyball team dropped a tough 3-2 match to Hillsdale Friday night (September 25). Set scores were 23-25, 26-24, 20-25, 25-16, 15-11.

The match was the home opener for Northwood and the first-ever match played at the Hach Student Life Center. NU will play a few matches at the Hach Center while the Bennett Center Renovation Project is completed.

Northwood is now 4-8 overall, 2-2 in the GLIAC. Hillsdale improves to 9-1 overall, 3-0 in the GLIAC.

Both teams executed at an extremely high level offensively in the match. Northwood finished with 75 kills in the match, which ties them for the sixth most kills for any division II team this season. That total also ties for the most for the Timberwolves in a match in the 25 point era. NU also had 75 against Eckerd in a 3-2 Northwood loss September 8, 2012.

Hillsdale was able to pick up the win by playing clean – the Chargers finished the match with just 11 errors. The Timberwolves had five blocks in the contest, meaning Hillsdale hit only six of their 147 attempts into the net or out of bounds.

Overall, Hillsdale ended up hitting .313, totaling 57 kills and 11 errors on 147 attempts. Northwood hit a solid .283, ending up with 75 kills and 26 errors on 173 attempts.

Four Timberwolves had at least 10 kills, led by Allison Getty (Wayland, Mich.) with a career-high 25. Krysta Kramer (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) ended up with 19 kills and 18 digs. Freshman Colleen Mayer (Troy, Mich./Avondale) had 11 kills, three blocks and a .429 attack percentage (11-2-21), while Chelsea Watson (Bowling Green, Ohio/Niagara U.) had 12 kills on 34 attempts. Taylor Pritchett (Apex, N.C./Univ. at Buffalo) finished with 66 assists in the match, the third most for a setter in Division II this season.

Northwood will host Findlay Saturday afternoon (September 25). First serve is set for 5 p.m.
