Volleyball Drops 3-1 Match To Findlay

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University volleyball team dropped a 3-1 match to Findlay Saturday afternoon (September 26). Set scores were 22-25, 27-25, 25-21, 25-15.

Northwood is now 4-9 overall, 2-3 in the GLIAC. Findlay improves to 9-3 overall, 3-1 in the GLIAC.

Coming off a tough five-set loss to Hillsdale Friday night, Northwood came out and played well in the opening set. Northwood scored five of the first six points of the set to take control early, a lead which the team would not give up the rest of the set. NU hit .281 (12-3-32) in the frame en route to a 25-22 win.

Findlay came out hot in the second set, scoring seven of the first nine points to take the early advantage. The Timberwolves fought back, eventually tying the set at 20-20. The score was tied 25-25 when the Oilers claimed the final two points to level the match at 1-1. UF hit .268 (16-5-41) while holding NU to a .182 clip (14-8-33).

The Oilers were the better team over the final two sets, holding Northwood under a .100 attack percentage en route to the win. NU hit .053 in the third (12-10-38) and .097 (9-6-31) in the fourth.

For the match, Findlay hit .226 (51-20-137) while Northwood ended up at .149 (47-27-134). Both teams ended up with 53 digs. Blocking was a big part of the Oilers win, as Findlay ended up with a 13-4 edge.

Allison Getty (Wayland, Mich.) led Northwood with 10 kills. Meghan Cleary (Howell, Mich. / Farmington Hills Mercy) came off the bench to finish with nine kills, while Krysta Kramer (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) added eight. Birta Bjornsdottir (Kopavogur, Iceland) led all players in the match with 22 digs.

Northwood will travel to Lake Erie Friday night (October 2). Match time is set for 7 p.m.
