Volleyball Sweeps Lake Erie 3-0

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Northwood University volleyball team picked up a 3-0 win at Lake Erie Friday evening (October 3). Set scores were 25-18, 25-19, 25-10.

Northwood is now 5-9 overall, 3-3 in the GLIAC. Lake Erie falls to 4-6 overall, 0-5 in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves offense was the key to NU earning the first set. Northwood hit .448 in the frame while scoring 18 of the 25 points on kills.

Northwood scored the first four points of the second set and did not trail the rest of the way. The Storm got back within four points after trailing by as 10, but NU still took the set 25-19. Northwood hit .178 in the set (11-6-28) while LEC ended up at .000 (9-9-29).

NU scored the first seven points of the third set to put things away early. The Timberwolves held leads of 11-1, 16-6 and 21-7 before taking the set by the score of 25-10. Northwood held the Storm to a -.156 attack percentage (7-12-32), thanks in large part to the Timberwolves registering five blocks.

For the match, Northwood hit .291 (36-13-79) while Lake Erie ended up at .023 (25-23-87). NU also finished with advantages in digs (33-25), aces (9-0) and blocks (9-3).

Krysta Kramer (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) led all players with 12 kills. Allison Getty (Wayland, Mich.) added eight kills, while Chelsea Watson (Bowling Green, Ohio/Niagara U.) added seven. Colleen Mayer (Troy, Mich./Avondale) had four kills and six blocks.

Northwood will travel to Ashland Saturday (October 3). First serve is set for 2 p.m.
