Volleyball Falls In Five At Ashland

ASHLAND, OHIO – The Northwood University volleyball team dropped a tough 3-2 contest at Ashland. Set scores were 25-20, 25-19, 17-25, 26-28, 15-10.

Northwood is now 5-10 overall, 3-4 in the GLIAC, with two of those conference losses coming in five sets. Ashland is now 11-4 overall, 6-1 in the GLIAC.

Ashland came out and took the opening two sets before Northwood began to fight back. NU made just three errors in earning the third set, finishing with a .316 attack percentage.

The Timberwolves then claimed a dramatic fourth set 28-26. Northwood was up 24-20 in the set, only to see the Eagles score five straight points to earn a match point. AU eventually had a pair of match points, but Northwood bounced back to win the final three points to level the match at two sets apiece.

The deciding fifth set was determined by a late run by the Eagles. The score was tied 10-10 when Ashland rattled off five straight point to earn the win.

For the match, Northwood finished with a .162 attack percentage (60-29-191) while Ashland ended up at .180 (61-25-180). AU ended up with an 88-83 edge in digs and a 9-8 advantage in blocks. Both teams finished with five aces and 10 service errors.

Krysta Kramer (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) led the way for Northwood, finishing with 22 kills, two aces, two blocks and 17 digs. Brenna Murphy (Fort Gratiot, Mich./Port Huron Northern) came off the bench to finish with nine kills and three blocks, while fellow freshman Colleen Mayer (Troy, Mich./Avondale) had eight kills and six blocks. Taylor Pritchett (Apex, N.C.) finished with 53 assists and three aces.

Northwood returns home host Ohio Dominican Friday night (October 9) first serve is set for 7 p.m.
