Volleyball Picks Up 3-0 Win Over Tiffin

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University volleyball team picked up a 3-0 sweep over Tiffin Saturday afternoon (October 10). Set scores were 25-10, 25-11, 25-22.

Northwood is now 6-11 overall, 4-5 in the GLIAC. Tiffin falls to 8-7, 5-4 GLIAC.

A night after a disappointing five-set loss to Ohio Dominican, Northwood set the tone early against Tiffin on Saturday. In the opening set, the Timberwolves scored four of the first five set and never looked back. The Timberwolves earned leads of 7-3, 12-4 and 21-8 before taking the set 25-10. NU hit .500 in the set (14-2-24) while holding Tiffin to a .190 clip (8-4-21).

Northwood's defense stepped up in the second set, which also proved to be an easy win for Northwood. The Timberwolves held Tiffin to a -.226 mark in the second, as the Dragons ended up with four kills and 11 errors on 31 attempts. Meanwhile, Northwood ended up hitting .250 (9-3-24).

The third set was much more competitive. The key run to the set began with the score tied 17-17. Northwood scored six of the next eight points to open up a 23-19 lead. Five points later, Northwood finished off the match by taking the third 25-22.

For the match, Northwood hit a season-high .381, totaling 42 kills and 10 errors on 84 attempts. Tiffin finished the match at .082 (24-17-85). The Timberwolves also finished with a 41-28 advantage in digs and a 4-2 edge in blocks. Serving was also a big key to the match, as Northwood ended up with eight aces and three errors while Tiffin had three aces and seven errors.

Allison Getty (Wayland, Mich.) and Meghan Cleary (Howell, Mich./Farmington Hills Mercy) each had 11 kills to share match-high honors. Chelsea Watson (Bowling Green, Ohio/Niagara U) finished with nine kills and a .533 attack percentage (9-1-15). Taylor Pritchett (Apex, N.C.) had 39 assists and five aces to go along with no service errors.

Northwood will travel to the Crossover Tournament October 16-17.
