Volleyball Claims 3-0 Win At Malone

CANTON, OHIO – The Northwood University volleyball team extended their win streak to three matches with a 3-0 victory at Malone Friday night (October 23). Set scores were 25-21, 25-13, 25-5.

Northwood is now 9-12 overall, 5-5 in the GLIAC. Malone falls to 7-17 overall, 1-9 in the GLIAC.

The opening set was close, as Malone got off to a solid start. The Pioneers led by as many as four points early on, going up 12-8. The Timberwolves fought back, scoring seven of the next eight points to go up 15-13.  The score was eventually tied 17-17 before the Timberwolves claimed eight of the final 12 points to take the set. NU hit .188 (18-9-48) while MU ended up at .122 (10-5-41).

Northwood used a strong finish to easily take the second set. The Timberwolves held a 14-11 lead when NU went on a big run, scoring 11 of the final 13 points to earn a 2-0 lead. Northwood's offense got better in the set, finishing with an attack percentage of .286 (14-4-35). Malone ended up with a mark of .000 (7-7-32).

NU led the third set 4-3 when the Timberwolves went on a huge run to finish the match. Northwood scored 21 of the final 23 points to round out the win. The Timberwolves hit .500 (12-1-22) in the set while holding the Pioneers to a -.111 mark (3-6-27). The five points allowed in a set are the fewest given up by Northwood in the rally scoring era, which dates back to the 2001 season.

Overall, Northwood hit .286 (44-14-105) while Malone ended up at .020 (20-18-100). NU finished with big edges in aces (7-1), digs (54-34) and blocks (6-3).

Krysta Kramer (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) led the way for Northwood, finishing with 15 kills and eight digs while hitting .387. Meghan Cleary (Howell, Mich./Farmington Hills Mercy) had nine kills and nine digs, while Cassandra Marsh (Maumee, Ohio) had seven kills, two blocks and a .583 attack percentage. Colleen Mayer (Troy, Mich./Avondale) also had seven kills to go along with four blocks.

Northwood will take on Walsh Saturday (October 24). Match time is set for 2 p.m.
