Volleyball Claims 3-0 Win Over Lake Superior State

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University volleyball team picked up a 3-0 win over Lake Superior State Tuesday night (November 3). Set scores were 25-15, 28-26, 25-10.

The Timberwolves are now 11-14 overall, 7-7 in the GLIAC. Lake Superior State falls to 0-21 overall, 0-14 in the GLIAC.

With the opening set tied 10-10, Northwood put together a run that led to NU taking a 1-0 lead. The Timberwolves scored five of the next six points and 15 of the final 20 points to win the first 25-15. Northwood hit .167 (14-8-36) in the set while LSSU finished at -.065 (6-8-31).

LSSU was on the cusp of leveling the match at 1-1, opening up a 20-15 lead. But the Timberwolves fought back, leveling the score 22-22. The two teams went back-and-forth the rest of the set until Northwood scored the final two points to win the set 28-26. Both teams improved their hitting percentage in the second set - Northwood hit .261 (16-4-46), while LSSU finished at .151 (16-8-53).

Northwood used a 13-2 run early in the third set to open up a commanding 20-7 lead and put the match away. NU hit .346 in the set (13-4-26) while LSSU ended up at -.107 (6-9-28).

For the match, Northwood hit .250 (43-16-108) while Lake Superior State ended up at .027 (28-25-112). Both teams blocked well in the match – Northwood ended up with 12 while LSSU had 7. The Timberwolves finished with a 50-47 edge in digs and a 5-2 advantage in aces.

The balanced Northwood attack had four players finish with at least seven kills, led by Allison Getty (Wayland, Mich.) with eight. Krysta Kramer (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge), Sydney Greulich (Kitchener, Ontario/St. Mary's) and Colleen Mayer (Troy, Mich./Avondale) all had seven kills for the Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves will travel to Grand Valley State Friday night (November 7). First serve is set for 7 p.m.
