Volleyball Sweeps Lake Superior State

OVERVIEW – LAKE SUPERIOR STATE

SCORE: Northwood Timberwolves 3, Lake Superior State Lakers 0 (25-10, 25-21, 30-28)

RECAP:  Northwood picks up a 3-0 sweep over Lake Superior State Saturday afternoon (September 22).

INSIDE THE MATCH

  • An abundance of Laker errors allowed Northwood to establish a 13-3 lead in the first set. The Timberwolves' skill soon took over from there, and they led by as many as 18 (23-5, 24-6) before winning 25-10. Northwood put up a strong .409 (11-2-22) attack percentage while Lake Superior State faltered with a -.200 (5-10-25) mark.
  • The Lakers would grab their first lead of the day with the opening point of the second. They kept the majority of the match relatively close, as both teams split the first 18 points. The Timberwolves would soon create a spread, going on a 13-7 run to build the lead up to 22-16. LSSU wouldn't go down quietly however, rattling off a 5-2 run to cut the lead down to 24-21 before NU came out on top 25-21.  Northwood finished the set with a .265 (15-6-34) line compared to the Lakers' rate of .069 (8-6-29). 
  • Lake Superior State continued their improved play and built up an early 7-4 lead over the Timberwolves in the third. Northwood soon tied the score at 10, but the Lakers didn't budge, scoring seven of the next 11 points to lead 17-14. With the Lakers leading 22-19, the Timberwolves soon made their move, rattling off three consecutive scores to again tie the score at 22. The set would soon go to a win-by-2 scenario. Trading points, Northwood eventually pulled out the hard-earned victory 30-28 to earn the sweep. NU posted a final line of .130 (13-6-54) while LSSU posted their only set of double digit kills with a .058 (15-12-52) percentage.
