INSIDE THE MATCH 

  • The Cardinals used a strong start to the first set to get out to an early 10-4 lead. SVSU kept control for the remainder of the set, holding leads of 15-7, 21-13 before eventually taking the first set 25-16. Both teams struggled offensively in the first: SVSU finished at .083 (9-6-36) while Northwood hit -.083 (9-13-48).
  • The Saginaw Valley momentum carried into the second set as they claimed a 9-3 advantage. As the set went on, the Cardinals extended their lead to 17-9. The Timberwolves struggled to stop the Cardinal offense, eventually falling 25-12. SVSU held a big advantage in hitting in the second, hitting .333 (8-1-21) to NU's -.065 (7-9-31).
  • Northwood responded early, scoring the first three points of the third set. With the score tied at 8-8, both teams exchanged small runs as the lead went back and forth early. SVSU used a 4-0 run to break away and get out to a 18-14 advantage. The Timberwolves battled back, getting within 20-19. From there, the Cardinals scored five of the final eight points to claim the 25-22 victory in the third set and win the match 3-0. The Timberwolves had their best hitting set of the match, finishing at .206 (13-6-34). SVSU ended the final set at .216 (14-6-37).
