Volleyball Rallies But Falls At Northern Michigan 3-2

SCORE: Northern Michigan Wildcats 3, Northwood Timberwolves 2 (25-10, 25-13, 19-25, 13-25, 15-11)

RECAP: Northwood Volleyball rallies from a 2-0 deficit before falling 3-2 at Northern Michigan Saturday afternoon (November 6).

INSIDE THE MATCH 

  • The opening set featured huge runs for both teams. The Timberwolves opened the match by scoring the first six points and seven of the first eight overall. But NU would score just three points the rest of the way, as the Wildcats earned 13 of the next 14 and 24 of the final 27 points in a 25-10 opening set win. Northwood struggled in the opening set on offense, finishing with four kills and nine errors on 38 attempts (-.132). Northern Michigan had a big opening set, finishing at .313 (13-3-32)
  • NMU led 10-9 in the second when they registered six straight points to go up 16-9. Northern Michigan also finished the set strong, scoring nine of the final 10 points to win 25-13 for a 2-0 overall lead. The Wildcats continued their strong offense in the second, hitting .370 (13-3-27). Northwood ended at .033 (7-6-30).
  • Northwood took the lead in the third at 6-5 and led the rest of the way. NU eventually led by as many as nine before taking the third 25-19.  The Timberwolves were much both offensively and defensively in the third, hitting .194 (11-5-31). NMU fell back to .118 (12-8-35).
  • The Timberwolves scored the five of the first six points of the fourth and never looked back. NMU got no closer than three the rest of the way, while Northwood's biggest lead was 22-10. The Timberwolves eventually took the set 25-13 to force a fifth set. NU had the exact same hitting numbers in the fourth that they had in the third, finishing with a .194 attack percentage (11-5-31).  The Wildcats struggled in the fourth, hitting -.061 (6-8-33).
  • Northwood jumped out to a 5-2 advantage early in the fifth before the Wildcats took over. The score was tied 9-9 when Northern Michigan put up five of the next six points to go up 14-10 on their way to a 15-11 victory. NMU bounced back in the final set, hitting .286 (7-3-14). Northwood fell back to .000 (4-4-16).
