Volleyball Opens GMAC Play With 3-1 Road Win At Lake Erie

RECAP:  Volleyball picked up a 3-1 victory over Lake Erie in their inaugural match in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) Friday night (September 9).

INSIDE THE MATCH

  • The opening was tightly contested early, as the score was 10-10 after 20 points. The Storm edged out to a one point lead one point later, but it was the Timberwolves that took over late. Northwood took a 17-15 lead and used a 7-1 push to go up 24-16 on their way to a 25-17 win.
  • With the scored tied early at 4-4. NU scored six straight points to go up 10-4. Northwood appeared ready to take a 2-0 overall lead in the match with a 20-15 lead, but the Storm made a big run at the end of the set. Lake Erie scored 10 of the final 13 points to win 25-23 and level the match 1-1.
  • LE started the third set strong as well, claiming five of the first seven points. Northwood came back with eight of the next 11 to take a 10-7 lead, only to see the Storm claim five of the next six points to take a 12-11 advantage. The score remained tight the remainder of the set, with neither team leading by more than three points the rest of the way. With the score tied 22-22, the Timberwolves took the final three points to win the set 25-22 for a 2-1 overall lead.
  • The Timberwolves got off to a strong start in the fourth, scoring nine of the first 12 points. Lake Erie got no closer than five points the remainder of the set. Northwood eventually led by as many as 12 on their way to closing out the match with a 25-15 win.
