Volleyball Earns 3-2 Comeback Win At Walsh

RECAP:  Northwood Volleyball remains unbeaten in conference play with a dramatic 3-2 comeback win at Walsh Friday night (September 16).

INSIDE THE MATCH

  • The opening set was tied 6-6 when the Cavaliers went on a run, scoring seven straight points to take a 13-6 lead. NU got back within four at one point, but Walsh maintained that lead the remainder of the set, eventually winning 25-17 for a 1-0 advantage.
  • Walsh kept rolling early in the second as well, scoring the first four and nine of the first 10 points. That advantage got all the way to 18-3 as the Cavaliers cruised to a 25-9 second set win and a 2-0 advantage.
  • The third set was much more competitive, with the largest lead for either team being three points. NU had the first set point at 24-23, only to see Walsh put up two straight points to get a set point of their own at 25-24. The Timberwolves eventually took the evenly-played set 29-27 to cut the Walsh lead to 2-1.
  • In the fourth, the margin between the two teams was small throughout. The largest lead for either team was three points. WU led 19-16 when the Timberwolves made the key run, scoring seven of the next eight points to take a 23-20 lead. Northwood eventually won the set 25-22 to force a decisive fifth set.
  • Northwood kept the momentum going early in the fifth, claiming the first four points. But Walsh responded right away, putting up six of the next seven points to go up 6-5. The Cavaliers were up 7-6 when the Timberwolves made the final run of the match to claim the comeback victory. NU scored eight of the next 10 points to go up 14-9. Walsh scored three in a row to get it back to 14-12 before the Timberwolves closed out the victory 15-12
