Volleyball Drops 3-1 Match To Ferris State

INSIDE THE MATCH

  • Northwood played arguably its best set of the season in the opener, getting off to a fast start and never looking back. The Timberwolves scored the opening point of the set and never trailed, taking the lead for good at 4-3. A 8-2 push put the Timberwolves up 12-5. NU led by as many as 11 in the set before eventually winning 25-15. Northwood had just two attack errors in the set and finished with a .455 attack percentage (12-2-22).
  • The Timberwolves kept the momentum going early in the second, scoring seven of the first nine and nine of the first 12 points overall. Ferris State fought back, but Northwood remained the better team the majority of the set. The key stretch of the entire match came late in the second, as Northwood held three set points to go up 2-0 at 24-21. The Bulldogs responded with four straight points to go up 26-25. NU continued two fight, earning two more set points at 27-26 and 28-27. But it was FSU who made the plays down the stretch, scoring the final three points to earn a comeback 30-28 set win to level the match 1-1.
  • The complexion of the match completely changed after the Bulldogs comeback in the second set. Ferris State scored 10 of the first 13 points of the third and did not look back. Northwood got no closer than six points the remainder of the third as FSU took the third 25-14 for a 2-1 lead.
  • Set four was close early, as the score was tied 7-7 after 14 points. With the Bulldogs leading 10-8, Ferris State went on a final big run to seal the victory. FSU claimed 10 straight points to lead 20-8 on their way to a 25-13 fourth set win and a 3-1 overall victory.
