Volleyball Defeats Lake Erie 3-1

OVERVIEW – LAKE ERIE 

SCORE: Northwood Timberwolves 3, Lake Erie Storm 1 (25-17, 25-13, 24-26, 25-20)

RECORDS: Northwood (13-12, 7-5 GMAC), Lake Erie (2-22, 0-14 GMAC)

LOCATION: Riepma Arena – Midland, Mich.

RECAP: Northwood earns second straight win, defeating Lake Erie 3-1 Saturday (October 22).  

INSIDE THE MATCH

  • Lake Erie started the match well, leading 7-5 after 12 points in the first set. With the score 13-13, the Timberwolves scored six of the next eight points to lead 19-15. NU eventually went on to win the set 25-17 for a 1-0 lead.
  • Northwood scored the first three points of the second set and led throughout. The Timberwolves held leads of 8-3, 12-5 and 19-9 before eventually winning 25-13 for a 2-0 advantage.
  • The Storm was the better team early in the third, leading 7-3. Northwood responded, eventually tying the score at 12-12. NU took the lead at 14-13 and appeared on their way to a sweep, holding a 23-19 advantage late. But LEC finished the set strong, scoring four straight points to level the score at 23-23. Northwood earned a match point at 24-23, only to see Lake Erie score the final three points to win 26-24 and make the overall match score 2-1.
  • The final set was full of runs for both teams. Northwood started fast, holding a 10-2 lead. The advantage eventually grew to 14-4 when Lake Erie fought back. The Storm put up 10 of the next 12 points to get within two at 16-14. NU came right back with five straight points to get the advantage back up to 21-14. The Timberwolves eventually won the set 25-20 to close out the 3-1 win.
