Volleyball Drops Hard-Fought 3-1 Match To Findlay

OVERVIEW – FINDLAY 

SCORE: Findlay Oilers 3, Northwood Timberwolves 1 (25-23, 25-27, 25-20, 28-26)

RECORDS: Northwood (13-13, 7-6 GMAC), Findlay (16-11, 11-2 GMAC)

RECAP: Volleyball battles but falls to Findlay 3-1 Tuesday night (October 25).  

INSIDE THE MATCH

  • The opening set was evenly played throughout, with the largest lead for either team standing at four points. Findlay led 22-18 when the Timberwolves earned four straight to level the score at 22-22. With the score tied 23-23, the Oilers scored the final two points for the 1-0 lead. The opening set featured 15 ties and eight lead changes.
  • Northwood was the better team early in the second, going up 13-8. NU eventually led 19-14 when Findlay fought back, scoring five straight to level the set at 19-19. The Oilers eventually earned the first set point at 24-23, only to see Northwood score two straight to get a set point of their own at 25-24. NU eventually claimed the final two points to win the second 27-25.
  • Set three proved to be the only lopsided set in the match. Findlay started fast, going up 9-3. Northwood got no closer than five the rest of the way, while Findlay led by as many as nine. UF took the set by the score of 25-20 for a 2-1 lead.
  • It appeared the fourth set was going to be another easy win for Findlay, as the Oilers jumped out to a 10-3 lead to start. Northwood responded with a big run, putting up nine of the next 13 and 13 of the next 18 points to take the lead at 16-15. The remainder of the set was as close as possible, with the margin staying at one until the final point of the match. Findlay had match points at 24-23 and 25-24, which was followed by Northwood having a set point at 26-25. It was the Oilers who made the final push of the match, scoring the final three points to take the fourth 28-26. The fourth set had 13 ties and seven lead changes.
