Volleyball Goes 1-1 On Final Day At UINDY

OVERVIEW – NOTRE DAME/MCKENDREE (UINDY INVITATIONAL)

SCORE: Northwood Timberwolves 3, Notre Dame Falcons 1 (25-14, 27-29, 25-14, 25-18) / McKendree Bearcats 3, Northwood 1 (17-25, 25-20, 25-16, 27-25)

RECAP: Northwood Volleyball goes 1-1 to finish the UINDY Invitational, defeating Notre Dame 3-1 before falling 3-1 against McKendree Saturday (September 9).

INSIDE THE MATCH - NOTRE DAME

  • Northwood started the match fast to earn the opening set. The Timberwolves started up 3-0 and scored 12 of the first 15 overall. The Falcons got no closer than seven the rest of the way. NU earned seven of the final nine points to close out the first 25-14.
  • The Timberwolves led in the second set 6-3 when the Falcons put tougher a run. Notre Dame put up eight of the next 12 points to go up 11-10. Both teams made big runs down the stretch. Northwood led 19-17 when the Falcons scored five straight to take a 22-17 lead. The Timberwolves responded with five straight points of their own to reach set point at 24-22. NDC came right back with three straight points to earn a set point at 25-24. NU eventually had four set points but were unable to close out the Falcons. Notre Dame eventually finished off the set with three straight points to win 29-27.
  • Notre Dame used a 4-0 run early in the third to go up 8-5. NU fought back and the score was tied 12-12 when Northwood took over. The Timberwolves scored five straight and 12 of the next 13 points to break the set open. NU eventually took the set 25-14 to go up 2-1.
  • With NDC leading 3-2 in the fourth, Northwood put up a 6-0 run to take an 8-3. The Falcons hung around and eventually cut the Timberwolves' advantage down to one. NU's lead was 20-18 when Northwood finished strong, putting up the final five points to win the fourth 25-18 and the match 3-1.

INSIDE THE MATCH - MCKENDREE

  • Northwood set the tone for the opening set right away, putting up four of the first five points. The Bearcats trailed throughout the set until tying the score at 16-16. NU finished the set on a big run, scoring the final eight points to win the set 25-17 for a 1-0 lead.
  • McKendree responded with a strong second set, scoring the first points and holding the lead the rest of the way. The Bearcats scored eight of the first 11 points and led by as many as eight. Northwood got within three late before McKendree finished the set off at 25-20.
  • After an evenly-played start to the third, a run by the Bearcats allowed them to take a 2-1 lead in the match. With the score tied 8-8, McKendree put up four straight points to go up 12-8. The Bearcats did not look back from there, finishing off the set 25-16.
  • Northwood was the team that mad a run late in the fourth that put them in position to level the match. The Bearcats led 16-13 when the Timberwolves earned 10 of the next 13 points to take a 23-19 lead. Two points away from tying the match, NU saw McKendree made the final run of the game, scoring eight of the final 11 points to take the set 27-25 and the match 3-1.
