Volleyball Falls In Five At G-MAC Power Hillsdale

SCORE: Hillsdale Chargers 3, Northwood Timberwolves 2 (25-23, 25-18, 19-25, 26-28, 15-9)

RECAP: Northwood Volleyball rallies back from 2-0 deficit against defending Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Champion Hillsdale before the Chargers earn 3-2 win Wednesday night (September 20).

INSIDE THE MATCH

  • Hillsdale took the lead for good in the opening set at 9-8. The Chargers were up 24-19 when the Timberwolves made things interesting, scoring four straight points to get back to 24-23. HC earned the final point to take the opener 25-23 for a 1-0 advantage.  
  • The Chargers led for the majority of the second, but NU did go up 14-13 midway through the set. That is when Hillsdale took over for good, as a 6-0 run for HC made the score 19-14. NU got no closer than four the rest of the second, which was one 25-18 to give Hillsdale a 2-0 advantage.
  • Northwood began its comeback in the third set with the score tied 5-5. An 8-3 push put the Timberwolves on top 13-8. NU maintained control the rest of the set, leading by at least three the remainder of the fourth. Northwood eventually took the set 25-19.
  • The fourth set was tight throughout, with the largest lead for either team standing at three. NU posted a 5-1 run late to go up 21-18. Hillsdale responded and eventually earned a match point at 24-23. HC had two more match points before Northwood claimed the final three points to take the fourth 28-26 and level the match at 2-2.
  • In the final set, the key stretch came with Hillsdale leading 9-8. The Chargers controlled the rest of the action, scoring six of the final seven points to win 15-9 and take the match 3-2.
