Volleyball Falls In Five To Ashland

INSIDE THE MATCH

  • With Northwood leading 5-4 in the opening set, the Timberwolves took over thanks to an 8-2 run. Northwood maintained the lead the rest of the set, going up by as many as seven. Ashland got within three late before NU finished things off 25-19 for a 1-9 lead.
  • The second set was close throughout – neither team led by more than three at any point. Northwood led 18-15 late, only to see the Eagles put up five of the next six points to take a 20-19 lead. NU eventually had set points at 24-23 and 25-24 but were unable to close things out. On their third set point, Ashland won the set 29-27 to even the match at 1-1.
  • Northwood bounced back right away in the third, scoring the first six points. Ashland stayed close and eventually got within one at 19-18, but the Eagles were never able to level the set. NU eventually won the set 25-20 for a 2-1 lead.
  • The fourth set was also close – Northwood held the biggest lead at 11-7. Northwood appeared ready to take the match, leading 24-22. But the Eagles claimed the final four points of the set, three of which came on Northwood attack errors, to take the fourth 26-24 and force a decisive fifth set.
  • Ashland scored the first three points of the fifth and held the lead throughout the final set. Northwood cut the lead to 4-3, but the Eagles responded with a 7-1 run to go up 11-4. AU eventually took the set 15-9 to earn the 3-2 match victory.
