2013: Ran 19:27.98 to place Third in the 5k Ray Helsing Bulldog Invite (Sept. 7). Finished with a time of 23:00 in the 6k 2013 Spartan Invitational (Sept. 13). Recorded a 19:04.9 to finish 11^th at the 5k 2013 Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic (Oct. 5) in Louisville, Ky. Clocked a 19:04.95 to finish Sixth in the 5k 2013 Michigan Intercollegiate Championships at Hillsdale College on October 11. Placed 25^th at the GLIAC Cross Country Championships (Oct. 26) in Houghton, Mich. with a 6k time of 23:29.6. Closed out the season in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships (Nov. 9), Burgess ran a 23:08 to finish 62^nd on the 6k course.

Ran cross country and track two years at Western Michigan University before transferring to Northwood.
