Men's Tennis Places Three On All-Great Midwest Team - Sergio Lopez Guillen Named Freshman of the Year

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's tennis team placed three student-athletes on the All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) team, the league announced Thursday (April 24).

Sergio Lopez Guillen was named the G-MAC Freshman of the Year as well as First Team All-Conference. Max Wild was also named First Team All-Great Midwest, while Alessandro Parigi earned Second Team honors.

Lopez Guillen was a standout for Northwood at the No.2 singles and both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles slot. He has gone 15-4 in singles while combining to go 14-5 in doubles. In conference play, Lopez Guillen went 6-2 in doubles and 7-1 in singles. He is the first NU men's tennis player to earn a conference Freshman of the Year award since 2018 (Mikail Fomenkov).

Wild made his senior season his best at Northwood, going 24-14 overall. He went 13-6 at the No. 1 singles position and 11-8 in doubles from all three positions. In conference play, Wild went a combined 13-3 record (6-2 singles, 7-1 doubles). Wild earned G-MAC Athlete of the Week honors twice this season.

Parigi posted a combined 27-10 record this season, going 13-5 at No. 3 singles and 14-5 at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles position. He was unbeaten in G-MAC singles (7-0) while going 6-2 in G-MAC doubles.

Northwood finished the regular season 12-7 overall, 7-1 in the G-MAC. NU, the No. 2 seed in the G-MAC Tournament, will take on either No. 3 Findlay or No. 6 Cedarville in the semifinals Friday (April 25).
