Track & Field Collects Two All-America Honors At DII Championships

MEET: NCAA Division II Indoor Championships

LOCATION: Pittsburg, KS – Pittsburg State University 

RECAP: The Timberwolves track & field teams collected two All-America honors this weekend at the NCAA DII Championships. NU sent seven NCAA qualifiers to the meet following their GLIAC Indoor Championship on February 26 and 27. Stephen Barker took fifth in the 800m, and Nathan Powers took seventh in the weight throw. 

INSIDE THE MEET – MEN

  • Highlighted by All-America performances from Nathan Powers and Stephen Barker, the Timberwolves totaled six team points with four from Barker and two from Powers.
  • The senior from Saline, Michigan, Nathan Powers, earned All-America honors for the first time in his career. Powers' 19.91m weight throw toss landed him seventh place and on the NCAA podium. He also is coming off his GLIAC Championship performance that set a new school record at 20.42m that earned him the GLIAC crown.
  • Sophomore Stephen Barker earned his way to being an All-American by finishing fifth in the 800m with a time of 1:51.84. Barker placed third at the GLIAC Championships and won two 800m events this year dating back to the Mike Lints Alumni Open (January 22) and Snowdown Showdown (February 4).
  • In the DMR, Trestin Mancillas-Finnerty and teammates Josiah MorseJosh Jones, and Dillan Haviland finished 12th at 10:02.07.
  • Zechariah Stickler's toss of 16.86m in the shot-put landed him 15th overall. Stickler placed fifth at 16.78m during the GLIAC Championships.

INSIDE THE MEET – WOMEN

  • Taky Ezell followed her second-place finish at the GLIAC Championships with an 18.91m throw to finish ninth at NCAAs. Ezell currently holds the second-best mark in NU history for the indoor weight throw at 19.28m.
