Track & Field Set To Send Four Athletes To The NCAA Outdoor Championships

MIDLAND, Michigan – The Northwood University men's and women's track and field teams are set to send four athletes to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Allendale, Michigan at Grand Valley State University on May 26-28.

All four athletes will compete in the throws portion of the Championships with a man and woman in each of the shot put and hammer throws events.

Meet the Athletes

For the men, 2021 Outdoor All-American Zechariah Stickler will throw shot put as he eyes All-America status once again. Stickler has consistently hit the 18-meter mark over the last five meets and reset his school record in the shot to 18.53m at the Ashland Alumni Open (April 29-30). Stickler took sixth in the 2021 Outdoor Championships with a 17.93m throw.

Senior Nathan Powers is set to represent Northwood in the hammer throw. Powers is second in NU history in the hammer with a personal best of 61.08m he set at the Tiffin Track Carnival (April 15-16). Powers is seeded No. 15 and will make his second appearance at NCAA Championships this year. Powers was an Indoor All-American, placing seventh with a 19.91m in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships (March 11-12).

In the women's hammer throw, Taky Ezell is going to make her mark as the No. 18 seed. Ezell comes in as the No. 19 seed with her lifetime best record of 55.98m. During the outdoor season, Ezell has reset her personal best five different times as she looks to do it yet again with the NCAA meet. 

Senior Jessica Kursinsky is set to make her second appearance in the shot put at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Jessica is seeded No. 16 and is coming off her second-place finish at the GLIAC Championships (May 4-6) where she had her season-long toss of 14.50m.
