Cross Country Teams Compete At Michigan State Spartan Invite

The Northwood Timberwolves cross country teams competed at the 2014 Spartan Invitational at Michigan State University Friday morning (September 12).

No team scoring was taken at the event, which saw the men run an 8K event and the women race a 6K course.

The men's team was led by sophomore Will Moench (Holland, Mich. / West Ottawa) for the second straight week. Moench finished with a personal best 27:13, just seconds ahead of fellow sophomore Tyler Jenson (Ovid, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie) at 27.22. Sammy Tanui (Eldoret, Kenya) followed with a time of 27:37, while junior Nick Kaufman (Hemlock, Mich.) clocked a 28:24. Also running for the Timberwolves were senior David Rowley (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.), sophomore Will Affholter (Bad Axe, Mich.), senior Thomas Rowley (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.), freshmen Nathan Yax (Freeland, Mich.) and sophomore Scott Loughlin (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon). A total of 371 runners took part in the men's collegiate race.

On the women's side, junior Chloe Theil (Plainwell, Mich.) ran her first race of the year and finished in 129th place with a time of 24:39. Following close behind that was freshman Emily Murdoch (Dewitt, Mich.) at 24:51. Jennifer Mckenna (Orchard Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) ran a 25:16, while Jenny Frantz (Ovid, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie) finished with a time of 25:58. Also representing the Timberwolves were freshman Jacqueline Reneaud (Goodrich, Mich.) and sophomore Julia Cherwinski (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage). A total of 307 runners took part in the women's collegiate race.

NU will travel to Minneapolis, Minn. For the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday, September 27.
