Cross Country Hosts Northwood Invite

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University cross country teams hosted the 2014 Northwood Invite on Saturday morning (October 4).

Both teams finished third in team scoring. Ferris State, Lake Superior State, Saginaw Valley State and Rochester College w competed in the meet.

For the women, Chloe Theil (Plainwell, Mich.) led the way with an 11th place finish at 19:17.08, followed directly behind at 19:22.49 by Jennifer Mckenna (Orchard Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern). Freshman Emily Murdoch (Dewitt, Mich.) finished 18th with a time of 19:44.59, while Jenny Frantz (Ovid, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie) and Julia Cherwinski (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) followed each other in at 20:53.98 and 21:00.79, respectively, for 28th and 29th place. Jacqueline Reneaud (Goodrich, Mich.) and junior Lauren Cianfrini (Akron, N.Y. / Akron Central) rounded out the team for the Timberwolves. A total of 44 runners took part in the women's 5K.

On the men's side, Sammy Tanui (Eldoret, Kenya) and Tyler Jenson (Ovid, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie) earned a ninth and tenth place finish to lead the charge for the Timberwolves. Tanui clocked a 15:54.17, while Jenson finished at 15:55.53. Will Moench (Holland, Mich. / West Ottawa) took 18th place with a time of 16:12.36, while junior Matthew Dippel (Kentwood, Mich. / Kentwood) ran 16:49.91 for a 32nd place finish. Also competed for Northwood was David Rowley (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.), Thomas Rowley (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.), Will Affholter (Bad Axe, Mich.) and freshmen Nathan Yax (Freeland, Mich.).

The Timberwolves will be back in action at the LSSU Invite on October 25 in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
