Cross Country Teams Compete In Midwest Regionals

The Northwood University cross country teams traveled to Evansville, Ind. on Saturday morning (November 22) for the 2014 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Cross Country Championships, hosted by the University of Southern Indiana.

The Midwest Region consists of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, Great Midwest Athletic Conference and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The women's 6K course was a 3K loop, while the men's course varied from a 2 to 3K loop to constitute a 10K.

The men's race was the opening event of the day, which was won by Grand Valley State with a team score of 43. Northwood finished 26th overall with 673 points. Tyler Jenson (Ovid, Mich./Ovid-Elsie) led the way for the Timberwolves, placing 103rd overall on the 10K course with a time of 33:46.6. Will Moench (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa) was close behind at 109th clocking 33:56.1.

Also running for the Timberwolves were David Rowley (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) at 34:41.2 andMatthew Dippel (Kentwood, Mich./Kentwood) running 35:25.1. Rounding out the men's team were Nick Kaufmann (Hemlock, Mich.) at 35:49.7 and Thomas Rowley (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) at 36:07.8. There were a total of 198 runners and 29 teams competing in this year's men's Regional Championship.

GVSU also earned the victory on the women's side with a team score of 42. Northwood placed 26thin the women's race with a score of 730. Leading the way for the Timberwolves was Jennifer Mckenna (Orchard Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) in 103rdplace with a time of 23:29.0 on the 6K course.  

Also competing for the Northwood was Chloe Theil (Plainwell, Mich./Plainwell) clocking a 23:54.8, while Jenny Frantz (Ovid, Mich./Ovid-Elsie) followed at 24:18.6 and Emily Murdoch (Dewitt, Mich.) with 25:12. Julia Cherwinski (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) and Jacqueline Reneaud (Goodrich, Mich.) rounded out the team on the women's side with times of 26:20.7 and 26:59.0, respectively. There were a total of 210 runners and 30 teams competing in this year's women's Regional Championship.
